East Brewster, (Cape Cod) MA station on the New Haven

Check out the funky signal on the front of the station. I wonder how this worked?

There doesn't seem to be anyway to change the color or location - there are no ropes or wires attached to the signal.

One of life's little mysteries...

  1. Perhaps the station agent uses a pole to slide the board out to the end (where it is) to flag a train and then back again towards the roof after the train has left?

  2. Looks like maybe the signal board could be moved sideways off a stop and lowered out of the frame, then a different signal inserted into the frame from below. Or, maybe the top is open and the signal is lifted out.
